Horsley Area Guide
Known locally as “The Horsleys” the two adjacent villages of East Horsley and West Horsley share many features, whilst retaining their individual character and charm, with both offering a strong community feeling. With a great selection of independent shops, including a grocery store, local butcher, bakery and a cheese specialist, both East Horsley and West Horsley offer a fine array of restaurants and country pubs.
For families, both villages offer first class schools, both private and state, including The Raleigh in West Horsley and Howard of Effingham secondary school, and Glenesk and Cranmore, two local independent schools with an outstanding reputation for excellence.
Bocketts Farm is a popular family day out, and only a short drive away. With a summer programme of activities that make it a true asset to the villages, RHS Wisley Gardens is also nearby. With the Hatchlands Park National Trust estate bordering West Horsley, villages have access to parkland walks throughout the year.
If you are interested in history, both villages featured in the Domesday Book and have a wealth of historic buildings and architecture worth seeing, including West Horsley Place – an ancient estate with 300 acres of open land.
Nestled on the edge of the Surrey Hills, the villages enjoy a semi-rural location with a great community feel, whilst also benefiting from good transport links to London, Guildford and Portsmouth.
